Hot Water Beach located on the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula in New Zealand is an amazing place to go and check out. You can dig your own hot water spa right on the water’s edge and then sit there watching the world go by. There are two underground geothermal hot springs located under the beach, and if you dig a hole in the area at low tide, the spring seeps through to the surface giving you instant hot water on tap for your spa!
I headed down there just after midnight recently to find a beach full of activity with people digging their own spas, and then just sitting there relaxing under the stars! It was a perfect way to enjoy the night sky, and I have to say the 38 degree celsius spa was a lovely contrast to the cooler night air!
